Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru

Boutique Safari welcomes clients who want the unique challenge and experience of climbing Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, or trekking its beautiful sister, Mount Meru. We have a team of climbing professionals exclusively dedicated Kilimanjaro and Meru safaris. We also have a Kilimanjaro Packing List and advice about trekking at altitude.

Climbing Kilimanjaro: The Basics

The trek to Uhuru Peak, the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, requires careful planning, physical preparation and isn’t for those who aren’t prepared for significant physical and mental challenge. It is, however, an incredible accomplishment. One critical component to any mountaineering adventure is that ample time must be provided for proper acclimatization and to prevent altitude sickness. We organize climbing tours on the Rongai Route and Macheme Route but the route we prefer which is the least busy and has the highest summit success rate is the Lemosho Route.

When is the best time to climb Kilimanjaro or Meru?

If you wish to climb Kilimanjaro or Meru, the two best times are January to March and August to October. Tanzania has 2 rainy seasons – short rains in October-November and long rains from mid March to end of May. It is best to avoid climbing Kilimanjaro during the rainy seasons.

Mount Meru: The Basics

Mount Meru Volcano

Mount Meru is an active stratovolcano located 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of Mount Kilimanjaro.  Mount Meru is the centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding savanna and support a forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and also monkeys and leopards. Our Mt. Meru treks offer spectacular scenery, including views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The mountain is unspoiled and less congested as compared to its sister, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Professional and Experienced Guides: Our climbing leader is one of Kili’s most experienced guides with over 140 successful summits. Our climbing and trekking staff are experienced skilled professionals. They also have extensive training in mountaineering, first aid, tourism and local culture.
